Connection issues at a hotel

I'm at a hotel for two weeks, and I'm trying to connect my Wii to the hotel wireless. It requires a password to connect, and I don't have a problem with my laptop. Under the laptop connection, it's listed as needing no authentication. But if I try and select the connection with my wii, it doesn't ask me for a password, I just get the error messge when I try and connect. If I go in and try and set it up manually, to use a password I have to select an authentication method such as WEP. If I try that, I get an error message (with no number) telling me the info I've entered is incorrect.

What you need to do is do the connection set-up (not manual) and do it as you would normally. It won't connect, but that's okay. If you have the Internet Channel installed on your Wii, go there and try to go to any page. If my understanding is correct, you should be redirected to a page where it asks for the password. Enter it, and it should give you internet access for a certain amount of time. Each time the time expires, you need to reenter the password.

If you don't already have the Internet Channel, then I don't think this would work since it needs an internet browser to enter the password.

That answer made sense when I read it, but it unfortunately didn't work. When I tried to access the Internet Channel, it just told me the connection needed to be set up and pointed me back to the setup page.

FWIW, I tried to connect to a wireless network that was listed as secure and it asked me for the password. So the problem seems to be that the connection I need isn't secure, although it does ask for a password to use it.

Since you are going to be staying for an extended amount of time, perhaps if you contact the network administrators of the motel to see if it is possible for them to "approve" the console for connecting online without a special login.

Typically this will be done by providing them with the MAC address of your Wii console, but whether they can or have the ability to do this or even if there is such a person in charge of the Internet service there, it still never hurts to ask.

Darn, sorry about that. With my PSP, 3DS, and Kindle Fire, it worked. What I expected to happen was that the settings would stay in the memory even if the connection didn't work, but I guess the Wii isn't like that.

Wii stopped connecting online all of a sudden

Hi guys. I have a slight problem.

Two days ago I was playing some online games and it was working just  fine. However, yesterday I tried to connect to Mario Kart Wii WFC and it  just does the most bizarre thing. I can join a room but it shows  everyone just sitting there at the starting line for five minutes, then I  get disconnected and get one of four error codes: 85020, 86050, 20100,  and 61070. It's weird I get 20100 because the Wii says I'm not connected to the  internet, but I can still access the Wii Shop Channel and watch Netflix  on the Wii home menu.

I've looked up the other three codes and did everything they suggested about  changing the router channel, resetting the router, and even  reconfiguring the connection setting to no avail. I don't know what could have gone wrong, especially since I leave my Wii unplugged overnight and when I'm gone. Any help would be greatly appreciated =)

That's the last resort but looking like it's the only option since I'm out of ideas

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the internet on it (the internet channel)? I know it sounds odd, but I had an issue with that once and it helped. Not sure if it would solve your problem, but I don't see why it wouldn't help to try it.

You could also try deleting your Internet settings, then putting them in again. Worked for me before.

All of those error codes point to either unstable network connection issues or issues on Nintendo's end. I'd give it a few days and see if the problem fixes itself. If not, try what others suggested, resetting your internet settings on your Wii. It may also help to set up the connection manually.

Mario Kart Wii connection issues

hi! as of recently, i have been having issues joining mario kart wii worldwide races and rooms. my router connection is fine; other devices can connect to the internet with ease. my wii can connect successfully as well. however, when i join a race on MKWii, my connection disconnects every other player in the room slowly one by one until i am the last player and i get disconnected automatically. this happens for every single race, and my friends are telling me not to join their races because of this. this started happening when my brother changed some settings on the router, so i have restored the router to factory settings, but i am continuing to get this issue.

i cannot play mario kart online at all because of this issue. anyone have any solutions?

One thing you might want to check and see "if the router's security software (firewall) is turned on, it may block communication that is required for online game play."

And/or it could be that certain "ports on the router might need to be opened through the Port Forwarding feature."

But if the information at the above url and copy&pasted below doesn't help still staying connected in Mario Kart Wii, give a call to Nintendo's 1-800-255-3700 (6 am ~ 7 pm Pacific, everyday) Customer Service number, and the service representative will be able to do some over the phone troubleshooting to determine exactly what the problem is, and talk you through any needed steps to correct this and get you racing again against your friends and foes.

Issues With Playing Games Online

Situation:

  • Trying to connect the Wii online for online game play results in error codes or disconnects

Information:

Before playing games online, the Wii console must first be connected to a home internet connection. (How To)

If the Wii is successfully connected online, online game play issues are often caused by firewalls within the router or home network.

What to do:

  • Try turning off the router's firewall:
  •

If the router's security software (firewall) is turned on, it may block communication that is required for online game play. To fix this, try disabling the router's firewall. Most firewall settings are located under the "Advanced" or "Security" tab in the router settings.

If the problem still persists with the firewall off, ports on the router might need to be opened through the Port Forwarding feature. (How To)

  • Trouble connecting to a friend?
  •

If the above steps have not resolved the issue and the problem is happening with specific friends, the problem could potentially be on their network. Your friend will need to perform these same troubleshooting steps with their home network.

Netflix connects then suddenly disconnects randomly

I've just had a recent problem with Netflix.  I log into netflix and starting watching episodes, it connects fine, but it loses connection mid episode or it will last 2-3 episodes then disconnect.

I get the standard message of "Unable to connect to netflix try again."  Or the same error codes of not being able to connect.  I go back to the home menu and click on netflix to start up again and it does and connects.  I go on to watch episodes on it and it suddenly disconnects again midway through an episode or completes the episode and I lose connection.  This happens over and over again, where I'm able to connect then it disconnects, I connect back and it disconnects again.

I've gotten really frustrated and called Netflix, I completely uninstalled it and reinstalled Netflix and that didnt solve the problem.

There are good days with the wii and netflix where it will stay connected for a long time, then there are days where it disconnects after every episode.

Any suggestions as to what I should do?

Sorry, not sure why this is happening, but if talking to Netflix didn't help, perhaps give a call to Nintendo's 1-800-255-3700 (6 am ~ 7 pm Pacific, everyday) Customer Service number, or use their webform to contact them, and see if they have any suggestions that might correct this.

Good Connection Gone Bad

OK, so I've had this good connection with my password-protected router to my Wii, and I've been using it for years now. Sometime over this past month, however, I have lost connection, and when I try to re-establish, my connection won't even show! I am using this connection right now, so I know that it is detecable and working, I just need some help. Thanks!

This happens a lot with me because i have both a bad router and a bad internet provider, makes it go at turtle speed. My router is only a year old and is outdated. Companies are trying advance constantly so stuff like this happens. You said your router is a few years old, your router may finally be starting to burn out. Try reseting it. Maybe your bandwidth is too bad. Maybe there is new interference, such as a new microwave.

No, my router is like lightning with my computer, as it was with my Wii. I have not purchased any recent items to mess with the connection, so I do not know what it could be...

You said that it wasnt even recognizing your router, maybe the wifi part in your wii went bad. Try taking your wii to a relative or a friends house to try to connect to their wifi. Or you can be the coolest person at mcdonalds with a tv and a wii at a booth (ive done that with an atari and an old portable tv, the looks are priceless). If you cant get any signal, call nintendo. Just any other response will indicate that there may be a problem with the environment you are in (resistance/interference) or a problem with your routers security.

I registerd my wii by entering the serial # but the survey wont show up
