Maybe there is a problem with the Shop channel's server. Looking at the current network status - http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/network/en_na/network_status.jsp there seems to be no problems, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to wait and try later. Also, does your internet connection work on other things on your Wii (Internet Channel, YouTube)? I would also recommended deleting your connection settings and putting them in again if the problem persists.
